Nepal Trekking - October 13 Day 8
Marpha→Tukche→Larjung→Kalopani→Ghasa (Altitude:2670M→2590m→2560m→2600m→2010m)

According to plan, we have the choice of either Kalopani(19Km)or Ghasa(24Km)as our destination for the day. The difference is 5Km and will be balanced by the trip the following day. From Marpha to Kalopani, the level is between 2550m and 2650m then drops down to 2000m to Ghasa.

Tukche is the next village after Marpha. In here, you will find the distillery for the apples and apriots grown in the region. From Marpha onwards and alognside the Kali Gandaki River, there are more forests of pine and cypress stretching all the way to Ghasa and beyond. After passing Tukche, we walk most time next to the river, water level in this season is usually low. The mountain view from Tukche to Kobang is plentiful, first it is the Dhaulagiri then the Tukche peak followed by the Annapurna I and last but not least the Nilgiri ranges. 3 hours later, we reach Kobang and within 10 minutes, we are already inside Larjung where we settle for lunch.

Walking on river bed in this dry season is a better alteranative since it cut short the distance compared with normal foot path, but then there are always surprises. This instance, we come to an overflow on the river bed and are compelled to cross the streams bare feet. There is no risk but the water is from the snow mountains and therefore freezing cold, a chilling experience!

Kalopani, also known as Lete, is a typical agricultural village. Herds of sheep kept inside fences, crops of corn in the front yards, to name a few are traditional farming activities. The last 5Km from Kalopani to Ghasa is tricky. We first cross a suspension bridge to the opposite side of the valley, then climb down hill and cross the second suspension bridge to return back to the right bank of the Kali Gandaki River. Near Ghasa, we bump into our first landslide in the trek and there are more waiting ahead. According to Prem, the seasonal rain last month has washed out parts of the Annapurna Circuit. 5:00pm we reach our hotel and place order for a roast chicken as reward.

【PS】Everyday after dinner, Prem would brief the team about the itinerary next day and highlight any alerts. He also notes down our choices of breakfast to save time next morning.
